Amazing shots of our Canadian made saunas all the way in Antarctica!!! Here is some comments from Leisurecraft themselves.
“These pictures are of a 780PV barrel sauna with an 8kw heater. Yes, this sauna is located in Antarctica at an adventure exploration lodge. This is a standard Panoramic barrel. No modifications have been made to it. The company is so happy with our sauna, they have ordered a second sauna!
We are often asked whether or not we insulate our saunas. Because the cedar wood is 1 3/8″ thick and is a natural insulator, we can design and manufacture saunas that work very well in cold, windy environments. Additionally, there is no need to insulate because there is nothing to freeze and the customer typically only takes a sauna bath for an hour or two per day.
All our staves are 1 3/8″ thick wood except the Hudson, Neptune and Orion. With these saunas, we use much thinner wood which is why we offer an insulation package for these three saunas.”

How to Get Rid of Foam in Your Hot Tub?
How to Get Rid of Foam in Your Hot Tub
There’s nothing quite like sinking into a hot tub after a long day, letting the warm water soothe your muscles and melt away stress. But if you’ve ever opened the cover to find a layer of foam on top of the water, you know how it can quickly ruin the experience. Foam in a hot tub is not only unsightly but can also indicate an underlying issue with your water chemistry or maintenance routine. Thankfully, getting rid of foam in your hot tub is usually straightforward with the right approach. Here’s how you can restore your hot tub to its crystal-clear glory.
What Causes Foam in a Hot Tub?
Before diving into how to remove foam, it’s important to understand what causes it. Foam in a hot tub is typically the result of one or more of the following factors:
- Body Oils and Lotions: When people use the hot tub, body oils, lotions, shampoos, and other personal care products can accumulate in the water, leading to foam formation.
- Detergent Residue: Detergents from swimwear that hasn’t been thoroughly rinsed can introduce suds into the hot tub, creating foam.
- Low Calcium Hardness: Soft water, or water with low calcium hardness, tends to foam more easily because it doesn’t have enough minerals to prevent bubbles from forming.
- Improper Water Balance: Unbalanced water chemistry, particularly low pH or alkalinity levels, can contribute to foamy water.
- Old or Contaminated Water: Water that hasn’t been changed in a while may accumulate contaminants, making it more prone to foaming.
Steps to Get Rid of Foam in Your Hot Tub
If you’re dealing with foam in your hot tub, follow these steps to get rid of it and prevent it from coming back.
1. Check and Balance the Water Chemistry
Start by testing your hot tub water with a test strip or a testing kit. Pay particular attention to the pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness levels:
- pH: Your pH level should be between 7.2 and 7.8. If it’s outside this range, adjust it accordingly.
- Alkalinity: The total alkalinity should be between 80 and 120 ppm. Use an alkalinity increaser or decreaser to bring it within this range if needed.
- Calcium Hardness: Ideal calcium hardness should be between 150 and 250 ppm. If your water is too soft, add a calcium hardness increaser to prevent foaming.
2. Clean or Replace the Filters
Dirty or clogged filters can contribute to poor water quality and foaming. Remove your hot tub’s filters and rinse them thoroughly with a garden hose to remove debris. If the filters are old or overly dirty, consider replacing them. Regular filter maintenance is crucial for keeping your water clear and foam-free.
3. Use an Anti-Foam Product
If balancing the water chemistry doesn’t fully resolve the issue, you can use an anti-foam product. These products are specifically designed to break down foam quickly. Simply add the recommended amount directly to the hot tub water while the jets are running. While anti-foam can provide a quick fix, it’s important to address the root cause of the foaming to prevent it from recurring.
4. Drain and Refill the Hot Tub
If your water is old or if foaming persists despite your best efforts, it might be time to drain and refill your hot tub. Over time, contaminants and dissolved solids can build up in the water, making it harder to manage. Draining and refilling your hot tub every three to four months (or more frequently if needed) can help maintain water quality.
5. Establish a Regular Maintenance Routine
Preventing foam in the future is all about regular maintenance. Establish a routine that includes:
- Weekly Water Testing and Balancing: Regularly test your water to keep the chemistry in check.
- Monthly Filter Cleaning: Clean your filters at least once a month to ensure they’re working effectively.
- Rinse Before Soaking: Encourage bathers to shower before entering the hot tub to minimize the introduction of oils and lotions.
Final Thoughts
Foam in a hot tub can be an annoying issue, but it’s usually easy to resolve with proper care and maintenance. By keeping your water balanced, cleaning your filters, and addressing the underlying causes of foam, you can enjoy a crystal-clear hot tub that’s always ready for relaxation. Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll be able to keep foam at bay and ensure your hot tub remains an inviting and soothing retreat

How to Know When It’s Time to Replace Your Hot Tub Pump?
Hot tubs are an excellent addition to any home, offering a place to unwind and relax. However, to keep your hot tub functioning properly, it’s crucial to maintain all its components, especially the pump. The pump is the heart of your hot tub, responsible for circulating water and keeping it clean. Here are some key indicators that it’s time to replace your hot tub pump.
1. Strange Sounds
If your hot tub pump starts making unusual sounds like grinding, humming, or squealing, it could be a sign of internal damage. These noises often indicate problems with the motor or bearings, suggesting that the pump is wearing out and may soon fail.
2. Poor Water Circulation
A significant decrease in water flow or weak jets can signal that your pump is not performing as it should. This can be caused by worn-out impellers or blockages within the pump. If cleaning the filters doesn’t improve the situation, it might be time to replace the pump.
3. Frequent Tripping of Circuit Breaker
If the circuit breaker connected to your hot tub frequently trips, it could be due to a failing pump. Electrical issues within the pump can cause it to draw more power than usual, leading to breaker trips. This not only affects your hot tub’s performance but also poses a safety risk.
4. Visible Leaks
Any visible water leaks around the pump area are a clear sign that there’s a problem. Leaks can result from cracks in the pump housing, worn seals, or loose connections. Addressing leaks promptly is essential to prevent further damage and costly repairs.
5. Overheating Issues
A pump that frequently overheats is struggling to function correctly. Overheating can be due to blockages, motor problems, or insufficient cooling. Persistent overheating is a clear sign that your pump may need to be replaced.
6. Pump Age
Most hot tub pumps are designed to last between 5 to 10 years, depending on usage and maintenance. If your pump is within or beyond this age range, it’s wise to consider a replacement. Even if it seems to be working fine, older pumps are more prone to sudden failures.
7. Increased Energy Costs
A failing pump often works harder to circulate water, leading to higher energy consumption. If you notice a significant increase in your energy bills without a change in hot tub usage, your pump could be the cause. Replacing it with a more efficient model can help reduce your energy costs.
Conclusion
Keeping your hot tub in top condition involves regular maintenance and timely replacements of essential components like the pump. Recognizing the signs of a failing pump and acting swiftly can prevent more significant issues and ensure your hot tub remains a source of relaxation and enjoyment. Investing in a new pump when needed is a smart move that enhances your hot tub experience and extends the life of your spa.
Embracing Solitude: The Serenity of a Solo Hot Tub Experience
In our fast-paced, constantly connected world, moments of true solitude are rare and precious. One such opportunity for solitude lies in the simple luxury of a hot tub. Imagine this: the steam rising in delicate tendrils, the water gently bubbling, and the night sky stretching infinitely above you. Being in a hot tub by yourself is more than just a moment of relaxation—it’s an experience that brings profound tranquility and self-reflection.
The Physical Sensation
The first thing that hits you when you step into a hot tub alone is the immediate embrace of warmth. The hot water engulfs your body, soothing tired muscles and easing tension. You sink deeper, letting the buoyancy of the water support you. The rhythmic motion of the bubbles creates a gentle massage, lulling your body into a state of relaxation that is difficult to achieve in any other setting. Each muscle fiber loosens, and your mind begins to follow suit, releasing the worries and stresses of the day.
The Symphony of Silence
Silence in a hot tub is not true silence. It’s filled with the subtle symphony of nature and the hot tub itself. The gentle hum of the jets, the soft splash of water against the tub’s edge, and the distant sounds of night creatures create a unique soundscape. This auditory environment is soothing and meditative. It allows your mind to wander freely, untethered by the constant barrage of noise that typically fills our lives.
A Canvas for Reflection
Solitude in a hot tub provides a perfect canvas for reflection. Without the distraction of conversation or the pressure of social interactions, you are left alone with your thoughts. This can be both daunting and liberating. You might find your mind drifting to past memories, future aspirations, or the intricacies of the present moment. The warmth and serenity of the hot tub create a safe space for this introspection, enabling you to explore your thoughts and emotions with a sense of clarity that is often elusive.
A Mindfulness Practice
Being in a hot tub alone can also become a practice in mindfulness. Focus on the sensations—the warmth enveloping your skin, the bubbles dancing around you, the rise and fall of your breath. Notice the way your body feels supported by the water, how each part of you begins to relax in turn. By anchoring yourself in these physical sensations, you draw your attention away from the constant chatter of the mind and towards the present moment. This practice can be deeply rejuvenating, leaving you feeling more centered and grounded.
The Stars as Companions
If you’re fortunate enough to be in an outdoor hot tub, the night sky becomes your companion. The vast expanse of stars, perhaps accompanied by the soft glow of the moon, adds a layer of awe to the experience. As you gaze upwards, you might feel a sense of connection to something larger than yourself—a reminder of the vastness of the universe and your place within it. This cosmic perspective can be incredibly humbling and inspiring, fostering a sense of peace and contentment.
The Afterglow
As you eventually emerge from the hot tub, your body still tingling from the warmth, you’ll carry a sense of peace with you. The solitude and serenity of the experience linger, leaving you refreshed and rejuvenated. You might find that the clarity and calmness you’ve achieved extend into the rest of your day or night, allowing you to approach life with a renewed sense of balance.
In conclusion, being in a hot tub by yourself is a powerful practice in solitude. It offers a unique blend of physical relaxation, mental clarity, and spiritual connection. In the embrace of warm water and under the watchful eye of the stars, you can find a sanctuary from the chaos of everyday life—a place where you can simply be. So, the next time you have the chance, embrace the solitude of a solo hot tub experience and let it wash over you, bringing peace and tranquility in its wake.
